Angle strain

Angle strain is the increase in potential energy due to the deviation of a C-C bond from its ideal angle (e.g. 109.5° for an sp3-hybridized carbon). Cyclopropane (internal C-C-C angles 60°) and cyclobutane (internal C-C-C angles 90°) are the most prominent examples of molecules that exhibit angle strain.
