Deuterium

Deuterium (D or 2H) is the heavy isotope of hydrogen, containing a proton and a neutron in its nucleus. In organic chemistry,  deuterium labelling can be useful for determining the mechanisms of reactions. Chemically, it behaves essentially the same as 1H, except C-D bonds are about 1 kcal/mol stronger.
