Elimination Reaction

Generally, an elimination reaction is one where a new pi bond is formed and two adjacent sigma bonds are broken. It is the opposite of an addition reaction. Common examples of elimination reactions include the E1 and E2 reactions, but also include 1,2-elimination of the carbonyl group, among others.
