Hydrate
The product of the addition reaction of water across an aldehyde or ketone, with the general formula R1R2C(OH)2. Although hydrates can be formed in solution, they are generally difficult to isolate since equilibrium tends to favor the aldehyde/ketone. Also called a “gem-diol”.
