DIBAL Reduction of Nitriles to Aldehydes
Description: Nitriles can be reduced to aldehydes at low temperature through usage of the bulky reducing agent DIBAL-H (diisobutylaluminum hydride). The reaction is usually carried out at low temperature (–78°C, the temperature of the convenient dry ice /acetone bath) to form an intermediate imine, followed by mild acid hydrolysis to the aldehyde.
