Benzyl

A benzyl group, C₆H₅CH₂– or PhCH₂– consists of an aromatic ring attached to CH₂. Not to be confused with phenyl (C₆H₅). Benzyl carbocations and radicals are stabilized through resonance, whereas phenyl carbocations and radicals are not.
